Things We Did as Kids That We Still Do

Today, I drove to Lenny's Subs to get a chicken salad "sangwich" (as Dane Cook pronounces sandwich).  At my desk, I opened up the waxy paper it's wrapped in while pouring out the contents of a bag of what was supposed to be Bar-B-Q potato chips but turned out to be regular potato chips. I took one bite of the "sangwich" and realized that I wanted to put those regular potato chips, the ones I hadn't ordered in the first place, on my sangwich, like they were just another topping.

As I am eating this delicious, albeit unoriginal, modified concoction of my sangwich, I got to thinking about when I used to do the same thing when I was a kid.

It reminded me, too, of the episode of "Friends" when Phoebe decides to go for a run with Rachel. Phoebe, much to the chagrin of Rachel, runs like little kids do, with total abandonment, glee, joy, and complete oblivion to the fact that they have arms and legs attached to them that just have minds of their own by flailing all about wildly.

How much fun it was to do those things that kids do without any preconceived notions of the "right" way to do things.  THAT'S the creativity I hope to tap into for myself in the coming months.
