Shakespeare on Honesty
“Honesty is the best policy. If I lose mine honor, I lose myself.” ~William Shakespeare
Some people just aren't capable of getting "down and dirty" when it comes to getting RIGOROUSLY honest with themselves.
Fortunately, as ugly as my own truth may seem at times--past actions, transgressions, lies, who I am at the core of myself--at least I am able to truly look at myself and discover not just why I've done these things but to be honest that I've done them at all.
I feel sorry for those who aren't capable of even being honest with themselves. As the quote says: no honesty, no honor, no self. How could I ever expect someone to be honest with me when they can't even be honest with themselves?
Lies beget more lies, and it's so hard to keep track of them all. It's a shame that some people continue those patterns without ever discovering why they keep lying to themselves and hurting others with their constant lies.
I'm grateful I can look at myself in the mirror....and see ALL of me, good, bad, ugly, beautiful, warts, and the pretty face and eyes. I can see it all and still love who I am.
