Wonderment

Just about all my life, I've really lived in one of two places: the past or the future but never the present.

Lately, I'm trying my best to stay in there here and now because really and truly, it's all I have. In a way, it's exhilarating and freeing, but then it can be frustrating for others around me. They're not used to it, want answers, which I do not have, and it's scary, too.

Today's reading was PERFECT for me. Again, it's not mere coincidence that the daily readings apply directly to what I'm going through at that very moment. It's as if God is speaking directly and only to me.

In today's fast-paced world, it's very easy to live in the future. And living in the past...well, let's face it, we all are usually driven today by what's happened to us in our past. Living in the moment...truly, FULLY living in the moment takes WORK. But just for today, I'm willing to take on that work.

I'm paraphrasing the reading, but here it is:
"There are many treasures for me if I am willing to accept them, but none can do more for me than learning really to live in the present. That means being more aware of myself and of small happy things that often dramatize themselves into importance as I observe them with enjoyment.

No matter how grim the situation may be that has troubled all my waking thoughts, there are shining nuggets of pleasantness all around me to distract my mind from its cares. But I must be on the lookout for them so they will not be lost to me!

Today's Reminder
The noted scientist Huxley said it this way: 'For every man, the world is as fresh as it was the first day, and as full of untold novelties for him who has the eyes to see them.'

'God make me receptive and aware; restore to me my capacity for wonder.'"
